Mini Special Register

The Mini 25 Register is for all Mini 25s that are still on the road in their original (or near original) form.

The entries on this web page are collated from Mini 25s that are put up for sale on e-bay aswell as from e-mails received by the web-master from current owners of Mini 25s.

To enter your Mini 25 on this web-site please e-mail a photo and details of your car to rob@mini25.com. Please include details of the general condition of your car, it's modifications and any special stories you have about the car.

Each Mini 25 entered on this register has to be close to original condition.

The basic entry rules are that the car has to resemble the original Mini 25.

Information Source: e-mail from Tom and Jon

Date: August 2007

Details: After 3 years of hard work here's the result - a perfect example.

Location: Unknown, United Kingdom

Here's what Tom and Jon wrote in their e-mail:

Hi, our names are Tom and Jon, we are 17 years old, and heres our mini 25 that we bought when we were 14. Jon saved the 25 from the crusher one saturday morning, when he was doing his paper round. He knocked on the owners door, and asked him if he had any plans for the mini, and if not, how much would to take for it... 'You'll never get that thing on the road, its rottern, The scrap yard garge is picking it up today, its taking up un-wanted space.' was the answer we got. Jon quickly finished his paper round, and collected his weekly pay. He rushed back up to the house, where the mini was, and offered the owner £25... The Mini was ours!

3 Years later, and a lot of hard work, heres the finished product. I could of modified it, but i thought it was best to keep her origianal. The car got worked on everyday after school, and all our money went into it. Luckily, Tom had a saturday job, and became an apprentice at a local garge, and all the mechanics offered their help... The 25 wouldnt look tlike this today if it wasnt for them.

At one stage, it was a bare shell, without sub-frames. We replaced the front subframe with a new one, and sourced a good condition rear. Then the body work began. As always, it was a lot worse than it looked. Luckily, Tom was allowed to borrow the welder from work most week-ends... In the end, we ended up replacing- Front Panel, 2 Wings, 2 A-Panels Bonnet, Scuttle, 2 Door Skins, 2 Door Bottoms, and Boot Floor. The rest was patch-repaired- Bulk-head, Floor, Qurter panels etc. Once the body was sorted, we spent hour after hour preparing it for paint.

The paint-job was done by the Paint shop, where Tom Works. Once the paint was done, it was time to put the car back together. Tom rebuilt the Standard 998 engine, including re-ground Crank, New Pistons, Cam Kit, Block Hone, Gear-Box Bearing and seal kit, carb rebuild kit, clutch kit, new exhaust, and a reconditioned head.

We saved all of the next year, for the National Mini Cooper Day, where we bought all new standard spec suspension and brake parts, including shockers, rubber cones, trumpets, lower arms, Discs and Pads, master and slave cylinders, Drums, and Full Drum Back-plate assemblys.

After this, we saved up for all new exterior and interior items. Everything was replaced, except seats and door cards, as these were in very good condtion.

Saturday 30th June 2007. The Mini was Finished. Tom had passed his driving test 2 weeks before this. The car was driven to Toms work on Trade-Plates, for an M.O.T. It passed the M.O.T, with no advisorys, than it was taxed and insured the same day!

We drove 200 miles up the country to run the engine in, which ran very well, considering it was re-built by a first year apprentice....

The car looks fab, and we are both pleased with the result. we both put exactly the same amount of money into the project- £1,650 each, but Jon still claims the car is his, as he put the extra purchase price of £25 in!

It has been to 2 shows so far, and we have been offered £6000 for the car. our reply was- 'I'm sorry, but its Not For Sale!'

He has just had a Metro GTA engine fitted to make him 1.3 and the union jack decals have gone, but her plan is to return everything else to original during the summer months. She will remove the spot lamps and the chrome arches. The interior is still original bar the carpets which will be replaced with grey ones once the car is dry. This summer Michelle will have his front end replaced (wings, front panel and a-panels) and completley re-sprayed in a slightly more metalic silver but with new original mini 25 decals.
