On Saturday 5th May 2007 Lewis travelled with his Karate Club (ISK Bexhill) to the K2 Leisure Centre, Crawley to take part in the SKF Inter-Club Competion run by Jacey '2FAST4U' Cashman, World Champion. Lewis had previously met Jacey when he held a Training Seminar for ISK Bexhill earlier in the year.
Lewis competed in the Point Fighting and Kata Competitions, he won 2 out of his 3 fights and came second overall for his Kata.
The style of karate is Wado-Ryu Karate, it is a Japanese martial art founded by Hironori Ohtsuka Sensei in 1934. The full name of the style is Wado-Ryu Karate-Do. Wado-Ryu means way of peace or harmony, indicating the original intention to use Wado-Ryu as a means of solving problems in a non-violent way.
Wado-Ryu was developed from the Samurai martial art of Jiu-jitsu, and the Shotokan Karate style.
Wado is a light, fast style that uses natural movements. It is a softer, more natural means of self-protection. The style is build around nine basic katas: Pinan 1-5, Kushanku, Naihanchi, Seishan, and Chinto.
